Stopover I – The Home of ‘Thudy’
Tribal music attracts everybody. ‘Thudy’
is the main musical instrument used by ‘Paniya’ tribal community. Vellan, a
handicapped tribal old man is one among the very few tribal artisans who make
‘Thudy’. He will introduce you to the ins and outs of ‘Thudy’ making and also to
the different handicrafts he and his community members make.
Stopover II – The Fragrance of
Eucalyptus
The
second stopover welcomes you with the fragrance of eucalyptus. Here one can observe the various stages involved in
the process of making eucalyptus oil. It has its own medicinal value and here
you have a chance to buy the real eucalyptus oil.
Stopover III – The Home of Weapons
The
history says that Wayanad served as a battleground for many years between to the
British, Tippu and Pazhassi Raja. “Kurichyans”, the warrior community among the
tribes were the soldiers of King Pazhassi Raja to lead the guerilla warfare against
the British. The main weapons they used are bows and arrows. Only skilled artisans
can make and use these types of weapons. Mr. Govindan is going to familiarize
you the process of making bows and arrows and you will get a chance to try these
weapon.
Stopover VI – Anganavady (Creche)
Anganavadies are the village level
preschool system sponsored by the Government. Kids in the village, especially
from the poor families assemble here and spend their day time playfully. It
also serves as a support centre for the expected and feeding mothers. Here you
will get an opportunity to interact with the rural children and their mothers.
Stopover V – The Wayanad Ethnic Food
Some of the tastes we never forget and
we try to enjoy it over and again when we get a chance. At this stop over,
delicious ethnic food will be provided on plantain leaves. The entire food items
are made from the locally available farm-fresh materials.
Stopover VI – Wayanad Plantation
Here
you will get a chance to see, smell and taste the spices of Wayanad. You will
be lead into different plantations where coffee, tea, cardamom and other spice
varieties are grown. (By foot)

Nellarachal

Here
you can feel the tribal life through the paintings of Ramesh. Water colors,
ball pen painting, pencil drawing are the main features of this stop over.
Stopover X – Home of bamboos
Uravu
an NGO promoting bamboo handicraft in this village. The people who living in
this village making these products.
